Antique Georgian 18th Century Love Pendant, with Cupid Sepia Miniature

Antique Georgian 18th Century Love Pendant, with Cupid Sepia Miniature
Singular, Spectacular.
This love pendant is surely one of a kind. There is so much to admire, but let us start with the sepia miniature — openly and unabashedly amatory. We see a delicate rendering of darling Cupid, wielding his bow and a quiver of arrows. One of his arrows has just struck its mark — a heart aloft on wings. “Love Pierc’d” indeed!
The sweet miniature is housed in a glorious surround — concentric frames of blue glass and brilliant rock crystal, suspended from a curvaceous, three dimensional rock crystal set bow. The finishing touch is a refined gold beaded border, very reminiscent of Portuguese jewels of the era.
We love this worn on a wide grosgrain ribbon — much as this would have been worn by a lady in 18th century.
Utterly charming.
Marked later with French “ET” import mark.
Silver, glass, rock crystal, 14k gold (beaded border).
Dimensions and weight:
● 6.9 cm long
● 4.1 cm wide
● 9.4 mm deep
● 29.9 grams
Period: Georgian (last quarter of 18th century)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. The back of the pendant may have had a surface layer polished down (see a cross-hatching texture). Of the two inner gold frames, the larger of the two is likely 14k gold (tested electronically as best as possible due to difficult to access location); we were unable to make a conclusion as to the smaller frame, immediately surrounding the miniature).
*This item can only be shipped within the U.S.
