Antique French Gold Filigree with a Twist Sautoir Long Chain

$7,950.00

Chic, Refined.

This is such a classic French beauty — a weighty and luxuriously long sautoir — more than five feet of chain studded with filigree stations with a dimensional twist of gold at their centers. We love the scale and color of the links — bold yet refined, and such a rich yellow gold that shows so well against color and sun kissed skin. Importantly, there is just the right amount of spacing between each filigree station — for a long and lean look that is also sumptuous. Do you know what we mean?

The sautoir is “closed”, slipping on over the head, and is decadently long enough to wrap up to three times. Use the large hanging spring ring to suspend a favorite pendant or to clasp back on to the chain when wrapped, keeping the lengths from sliding. There is a bonus, second, smaller spring ring (currently suspending a ball charm), for added versatility.

We think a French filigree sautoir is a foundational piece in a chain wardrobe — the airy, scrolling links a lovely contrast to the curb, the rolo, the mariner, and the paperclip chains that may already reside in the jewelry box.

Locket shown is not included.

Marked with eagle’s head and maker’s mark on the chain and the ball charm; marked with combined boar’s and eagle’s heads on the large spring ring clasp (which is comprised of gold and likely an interior spring of silver); smaller spring ring not marked.

18k gold.

Dimensions and weight:

● 61.5 inches/156.2 cm long

● Filigree links are 18.1 mm long x 8 mm wide

● 3.6 mm deep

● 56.6 grams (including the ball charm)

Period: Edwardian (early 1900s)

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present. The smaller spring ring and charm were likely added to the chain at some point (slightly rosier gold color).

*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
