(SOLD) Vintage Gold Coiled Snake Bracelet with Turquoise
Alluring, Rich.
An age-old jewel motif is revived in this alluring coiled snake bracelet. Bright pops of cabochon turquoise contrast dramatically against the richness of the high karat gold. We are reminded of the spiral snake bracelets of Ancient Egypt in the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. (See examples at the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art).
The bracelet is not hinged or clasped —it is simply a single coil. To wear, slip onto the wrist via the gap between the head and tail. Super chic worn higher on the arm, too. Slightly adjustable by gentle pressure.
Marked for 21k gold in Arabic (with Egyptian gold marks)
21k gold, turquoise, ruby.
Dimensions and weight:
● 17.7 cm/7 inches inside circumference (more or less — difficult to measure)
● 5.7 cm wide (inside) x 5.67 cm long (inside)
● 7.3 mm wide at head tapering to 1.7 mm wide at tail
● 3.6 mm deep
● 29.2 grams
Period: 20th Century (likely 1940s)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
