Antique Grand Scale Gold Filigree Sicilian Pendeloque Earrings

$5,650.00

Outstanding, Alluring.

We found these antique filigreed and faceted beauties in Rome, but they have their origins in Sicily. The earring is fully articulated, swaying gently when worn, drawing attention to the visage. It is composed of three sections — a top marquise-shaped “hoop” suspending a lacy, filigreed bow, in turn suspending a teardrop pendant dangling within a filigreed frame. The top hoop is detachable and may be worn solo — in a-day-to-night configuration. The gold is ever so slightly rosy, while the filigree is a bit more yellow.

Earrings of this type were favored in Sicily from the late 18th to the early 19th centuries. The goldsmiths executed variations of this regional design according to the means of their patrons. Our pair is of significant size and of substantial (yet comfortable) gold weight.

Wear these with jeans or a LBD. Feel and look more vivacious, instantly.

Of interest: A very similar pair was presented at the Exposition Universelle of 1867 in Paris by Signor Castellani as part of a collection of the regional jewelry of Sicily and Sardinia. That particular pair is now part of the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Please note that the closure is back to front, characteristic of early earrings.

Marked on each section with maker’s mark.

18k gold.

Dimensions and weight:

● 8.5 cm long (including earring wire)

● 3.25 cm wide

● .9 mm deep

● 19.8 grams

Period: Early 19th Century

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present.

*For deliveries outside the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
