(SOLD) Antique Victorian Snake Necklace with Heart Locket
Quintessentially Victorian. The Victorians were mad for sentimental jewelry. In particular, snake jewelry became immensely fashionable after Prince Albert presented Queen Victoria with an engagement ring in the form of a snake, a symbol of eternal love.
This sentimental jewel is modeled with a scaled gold chain body and a head set with turquoise and garnet eyes. A turquoise-set heart shaped locket with a glass backed compartment on the reverse dangles from the snake’s mouth. Very special and very wearable.
Unmarked.
14/15k gold, turquoise, garnet.
Dimensions and weight:
● 16.25 inches/ 41.27 cm long (wearable length)
● 9.5 mm wide at head/ 2 mm wide at tail
● 15.7 grams
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. There is a small chip to the glass compartment on the reverse of the locket and a small shallow impression on the underside of the snake’s head.
