(SOLD) Antique Victorian Austro-Hungarian Blue Enamel Bangle with Rose Cut Diamond Solitaire
A most unusual example of an enamel bangle from the bygone Austro-Hungarian empire, circa 1880. The examples we have seen have been set with seed pearls in foliate designs. This one emphasizes the beautiful robin’s egg blue enamel with the confident placement of a rose-cut diamond solitaire. We adore this one for the color and the restrained ornamentation — the overall effect is surprisingly modern. We would wear this for any and all occasions (seeing this with summer whites) — or perhaps this is the perfect “something blue” for the bride, with the diamond symbolizing eternity.
This bangle was crafted in Vienna of 800 silver, with a lovely, well-preserved gold wash. Bangle closes securely with an audible, reassuring “click.”
Marked at the clasp with the Austro-Hungarian greyhound’s head, with “A” for Vienna (in use from 1872 to 1922), a maker’s mark, and additional marks at the interior.
Silver (800), enamel, diamond.
Dimensions and weight:
● Inside measurements: 55 mm x 46.5 mm
● 13.6 mm wide
● 4.6 mm deep
● 4.3 mm diameter diamond
● 27.6 grams
For reference, this is shown on a 6 inch wrist.
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present, including minor, superficial scratches. We observe one discrete area (approx. 5.5 mm x 2.7 mm) of the enamel at the front edge of the bangle that we believe was repaired — not readily discernible in person or in photography.
