(SOLD) Antique Large Victorian Good Luck Coral Cornicello Amulet Pendant
Powerful, Protective.
We have seen coral cornicello in many sizes, but none on this scale. This is a gorgeous specimen of antique coral — large, dense, and in that desirable deep orange-red characteristic of antique Mediterranean coral. The cornicello has been used for centuries to ward against the evil eye, bad luck, and to promote good fortune.
Perhaps this coral was acquired during a Grand Tour to Italy and later mounted in gold, engraved with a quintessential Victorian sentimental motif — the belt and buckle representing eternity, strength, and protection. Or, perhaps the coral once belonged to a child (coral was often given to children to protect them from harm, as well as to sooth teething discomfort) and later re-mounted to be worn as a sentimental token.
Regardless of the origin story, we are certain this was cherished. We note that the engraving — of the belt and buckle along with a monogram — is lovingly worn, telling us that someone rubbed this talisman quite often. We would 100% do the same — as the coral is wonderfully tactile, and the engraving is a meaningful one.
We adore this piece for its powerful associations and scale. Wear this on a long gold chain, along with other protective amulets. Bail swivels.
Chain shown not included.
Unmarked.
15k gold, antique natural coral.
Dimensions and weight:
● 86.5 mm long (visible portion of coral measures 52 long)

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. There is a superficial hairline along the coral, visible only under close examination, and not affecting the beauty or stability of this large piece of natural, antique coral.
