(SOLD) Antique Regency Colored Gold and Platinum Butterfly Spinner Fob
A remarkable example of craftsmanship, this circa 1820 fob takes the shape of a butterfly, with folded wings. The butterfly is a powerful symbol of endurance, transformation and renewal. Here, it is skillfully rendered in colored gold, and displays the early use of platinum. Exquisite detail and texture to the wings, eyes, segmented body, legs and antennae. The faceted gemstone is a deeply saturated amethyst, a harmonious replacement to the original amethyst, which had chipped at some time in the last 200 years of life. The fob is suspended from a split ring, ready to be worn on a long gold chain.
Unmarked.
14k/15k gold, platinum, amethyst.
Dimensions and weight:
● 31 mm long (not including split ring)
● 16.5 mm wide
● 16 mm diameter to split ring
● 7.2 grams
Period: Georgian
Note that the amethyst spins, but not quite all the way around.
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
