(SOLD) Antique Georgian Banded Enamel Mourning Ring (1806)

So wearable and modern looking, yet more than 215 years old. This Georgian mourning band commemorates William Fenwick, who died on November 12, 1806, aged 40. The inscription on the inside of the band is beautifully and delicately rendered.

Our online research reveals that this ring likely commemorated William Fenwick, an under-sheriff of Durham, in England — unmarried and the eldest of 8 sons, listed in Burke’s History of the Landed Gentry.

The design of this mourning ring is seldom found — three simple black enamel bands create a clean aesthetic, with the sentiment inscribed to the inside. We love this one stacked with other antique black and gold mourning bands. Of course, it works just as beautifully with modern pieces.

Marked with UK hallmarks for 18k, maker’s mark, and duty mark showing the profile of the then reigning monarch, King George III.

18k gold, black enamel

Dimensions and weight:

●      6.9 mm wide band

●      .9 mm deep

●      4.5 grams

●     US Size 8 (fits smaller due to width)

Period: Georgian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Note that the ring was expertly re-enameled in recent years to replace the original chipped enamel.
