(SOLD) Antique French Victorian Engraved Gold Locket Bangle
This early French bangle, circa 1840, is a rare find. A locket keeps a sentimental memento close at hand, discreetly covered, away from public view. The all-gold conduction is minimalist, without the ostentation of gemstones, yet the profusion of hand engraving and the scrolling border provide just the right touch of retrained ornamentation. The gold is wonderfully velvety to the touch, as only antique gold can be. This is truly a special, one-of-a-kind treasure — one of our favorite bangles, ever.
The locket closes securely; the bangle claps audibly snaps shut; the tongue of the bangle is ingeniously hinged to ease any stress to the closing mechanism.
Marked with French eagle’s head (single frame, in use from 1838 to 1847).
Minimum of 18k gold.
Dimensions and weight:
● Inside measurements: 7.1 inches/18 cm
● 37.3 mm wide (widest point)
● 5 mm deep (deepest point)
● 43.1 grams
Period: Victorian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Of note: We noticed two hairline fissures in the band. We have expertly reinforced and restored these areas with 22k gold, with the least intrusion possible (via laser, preserving the patina). The restoration is visible on the inside of the band and very minutely on the outside upper and lower edges. The arrows in the last two photos indicate the areas. Please be reminded that these photos show the areas at some magnification; in life, not readily noticeable. We treasure this piece — “imperfections” and all. We hope you do, too.
