(SOLD) Antique French Royalist Silver Swagged Bib Collar Necklace
Dramatic, Royal.
From our own personal collection, here is stunning silver bib necklace, unlike any other we have encountered. The entire piece is composed of symbols of France — the stylized ermine for Brittany, the sacred heart for the Vendée region in Western France, and the fleur-de-lis for France or the Bourbon monarchy.
We do love a mystery, and our sleuthing alter ego tells us this necklace may be a reference to the historical counter-revolutionary uprisings in Brittany and the Vendée (in support of the Bourbon monarchy) during the French Revolution. (To learn more about the counter-revolution in Brittany and the Vendée, see https://bonjourfrombrittany.wordpress.com/2021/07/13/brittany-and-the-french-counter-revolution/.)
This unique necklace is a visual standout and a conversation starter. We love the airy, lacy look and the drama of the swagged chains — quite Gothic Revival in aesthetic!
Marked with French boar’s head for .800 silver. Closes with a hook and loop.
(Additional photos forthcoming; in the meantime, feel free to contact us to request).
Silver.
Dimensions and weight:
● 44.5 cm/17.5 inches long; 14 cm/5.5 inches long on the drop on the “bib"
● 1.4 mm deep
● 46.6 grams
Period: Victorian (conservatively late 19th century, but could be a few decades earlier).
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present.
