Antique French 18th Century Double Portrait Miniature Gold Watch Key
One of One.
For the collector of watch keys, lovers of portrait miniatures and French history.
This is a unique watch key — topped with double sided portrait miniatures of two French Revolutionary era women.
We see a signature that appears to be “Thiboust” and a date that appears to be “ans 7,” referring to Year 7 of the Revolutionary calendar (i.e., 1795). There is writing on both portraits, but only somewhat legible on one of them.
Striking worn on any period chain or a neck ribbon. Or hang this to display with any collection of portrait miniatures.
Marked with French St. Jacques shell.
Gold tests between 15k and just under 18k.
Dimensions and weight:
● 65.5 mm long (including loop and key shank)
● 33 mm wide
● 6.3 mm deep
● 17.1 grams
Period: Georgian, circa 1795
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present.
