A very fine example of the sentimental Victorian locket, circa 1870.
This extra large locket is extravagantly engraved — with a profusion of foliage on the front and an especially pleasing monogram (HL/LH) on the reverse.
Meticulous attention has been lavished upon every detail, including the decorative bail engraved on both sides. The locket hinges open to reveal two compartments with their original rims and covers, graced by a period photograph of a gentleman on one side and sentimental hair work on the other.
This Victorian jewel makes a striking statement whether worn on a longer chain, a period gold collar, or a simple wide ribbon. The locket closes securely.
