Antique Victorian Etruscan Revival Micromosaic Locket, of Greek God Pan

$3,250.00

We love Etruscan Revival micromosaic jewelry, and we love lockets. So, of course we were immediately smitten by this circa 1860/70 beauty for its unusual 8 point shape and petite dimensions.

A micromosaic portrait of the Greek god Pan (depicted without horns) graces the front of the locket — see his reeded pan pipe and the foliage from his beloved woodlands. Pan was associated with nature and wildlife, as well as fertility and Spring. While other gods of Mt. Olympus represented civilized ideals, Pan was the wild child.

On the reverse, a hinged door reveals a secret compartment suitable for a keepsake. A generous hinged bail accommodates a substantial chain or collar. Touches of Etruscan Revival wirework abound — at the bail and on the locket door. Lovely patina to the gold, vibrant colors to the mosaic.

Chain shown is not included.

Unmarked.

18k gold, glass (tesserae).

Dimensions and weight:

● 37.5 mm long (including bail)

● 21.5 mm wide

● 6.9 mm deep

● 6 grams

Period: Victorian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Small portions of wirework are deficient on the hinged door, not readily noticeable.

*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
