Powerful, Mysterious.

The snake is an age-old motif spanning the millennia across civilizations. The sentimental Victorians couldn’t get enough of this potent symbol of love, protection, and eternity (among others). The young Queen Victoria received a betrothal ring in the shape of a snake from her beloved Prince Albert, and soon snakes adorned the wrists, fingers, and necks of fashionable ladies (and gentlemen) of the era.

This is a bold, strong coiled snake, circa 1850-60 — crafted in richly hued gold, with intricate hand-engraved floral and foliate details. A trilogy of glowing, high-domed garnet cabochons crown the head, and the eyes are set with glittering diamonds. The body is substantial and dimensional, tapered from head to tail, and well balanced on the wrist.

The snake’s body is hinged and sprung at two points, opening and closing smoothly, allowing for comfortable and convenient on/off.

We could not resist the strong allure of this statement-making snake, quintessentially mid-Victorian.
