Empires rise and fall. The jewelry remains.

This 19th century bangle boasts modern lines and sensibility. A trio of squared “nailheads” are embedded with cushiony old mine cut diamonds, set in a streamlined bangle.

This jewel comes from our own personal collection, chosen precisely for its contemporary appeal. In addition to its undeniable good looks, we appreciate it as a witness to history. Look closely for the gold hallmarks that track the tumult of European affairs in the past few centuries. The first mark is from the Austro-Hungarian empire — a conjoined “AV” (for “Ausländsverkechr,” or foreign goods), assayed in Vienna, between 1872 and 1902. We do not know the origins of this bangle before it made its way to Austria. We do know, however, that this jewel was later re-stamped with the Polish owl mark for used gold items, in use from 1920 to 1963. Poland, of course, had been occupied since the 18th century by Austria (among others), and regained independence only after World War I. In this one jewel, we can trace the end of an empire and the re-emergence of an independent Poland. Amazing!

Super wearable and chic — whether styled solo, in a stack, or with your timepiece. Sure to become a jewelry wardrobe favorite.

Shown on a 6 inch wrist.

Marked with Austro-Hungarian “AV” (assayed in Vienna 1872 - 1902) and Polish owl (1920 - 1963).

14k gold, diamond.

Dimensions and weight:

● 54.5 mm long x 47 mm wide (inside measurements); in our opinion, this is a good fit for a 6 inch wrist, with some room to spare.

● 8.1 mm wide x 3.9 mm deep on the bangle (8.7 mm at deepest point with the diamonds)

● .80 ctw diamond

● 20.7 grams

Period: Victorian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present.
