Antique Georgian Majestic Amethyst and Enamel Gold Bangle

$9,250.00

Regal, Striking.

Pure drama, circa 1830. To behold this bangle is to be transported back to an era when ladies stacked bracelets upon one arm. Think of Lady Peel, painted in 1827 by Thomas Lawrence with three large bracelets with central plaques adorning her left arm, over the sleeve of her gown.

Incredible, deeply saturated color to the amethysts, complemented by the green enameled foliate details and rich burnished high carat gold.

The clasp is the central ornamental plaque — fully detachable — fitted with a tongue and groove catch on each side. Each tongue is hinged to minimize stress upon clasp — one hidden indicator of wonderful quality. Once the plaque is detached, It is possible to slide a ribbon through it to wear as a choker.

A Royal presentation bangle of very similar design, holding the portrait of King William IV, is shown in Shirley Bury, Jewellery, The International Era Volume I, at page 212.

Unmarked.

22k gold, amethyst, enamel.

● 58.5 mm x 42.7 mm inside measurements
