(SOLD) Antique French Gold Lock and Key Bangle

$3,150.00

Keeper of the Key.

A pure, streamlined bangle of Gallic gold is unadorned save for a small, discreet keyhole to the side of the bangle. A tiny skeleton key dangles from an attached chain. Insert the key, turn gently to the right (facing the keyhole), and “voilà” — the bangle unlocks! This bangle is everything we love — simple, sleek, yet with a secret feature tucked away.

Whatever the lock symbolizes to you — be it happiness, wisdom, riches, love, etc. — be reminded that YOU hold the key!

This bangle is perfection on its own. We do, however, see this paired brilliantly with almost any other kind of wrist adornment — from black mourning bangles to diamond lines.

How incredible is it that the bangle and key have stayed together all these years? This is a true survivor and a marvel. Chef’s kiss.

Shown on a 6 inch wrist. Closes securely with an audible “click”. The chain suspending the key is also the safety chain. Our personal preference is to wear the chain to the inside of the wrist.

Gold is yellow, with a touch of rosiness, characteristic of antique French gold.

Other bangles shown are not included.

Marked with French Mercury’s head (bangle), French maker’s mark (same mark on both the bangle and key), and a third mark for “Breveté SGDG” (indicating in French a “patent without government guarantees”).

18k gold.

Dimensions and weight:

●       53.8 mm x 47 mm inside diameters (approximately 6.25 inches inside diameter measured with a tape measure). In our opinion, this is ideally worn on a wrist 6 inches or less (to allow for some room).

●       9.2 mm wide x 3.7 mm deep

●       15 grams

Period: Victorian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. There are two pinhead type “dings” we wish to note: to the right of the keyhole and nearly opposite, on the other side. They are not particularly noticeable when worn, but please see last two photos and ask any questions.
