Antique Edwardian Gold and Diamond Swooping Swallow Ear Pendants

$2,550.00

Swallows mate for life and always return to the nest. In Victorian and Edwardian jewelry, the swallow was a popular motif — associated with faithfulness and love, as well as hope for s safe return home. During World War I, swallow jewelry was often presented between parting sweethearts.

Here is a pair of swallows, rendered in blue and yellow enamel over gold, with a lovely iridescence. Each bird is meant to be worn facing each other, and we can almost see them in flight swooping and gliding, finding their way to each other. We think these are perfect to mark a sentimental occasion — an engagement, anniversary, a departure from home for university or other life event, and especially fitting as the “something blue” for a bride’s wedding day.

We believe that these are conversions from antique pins/brooches, circa 1910-18, with the addition of antique diamond tops and newer ear wires.

Unmarked.

14k gold, enamel, diamond.

Dimensions and weight:

● 49 mm long (including earring wire)

● 15.9 mm wide

● .20 ctw diamond

● 7 grams

Period: Edwardian

*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate and age-commensurate wear may be present. Some restoration to enamel.
