(SOLD) Fancy Link Gold Long Chain with Victorian Gold and Turquoise Engraved Clasp
(SOLD) Fancy Link Gold Long Chain with Victorian Gold and Turquoise Engraved Clasp
A beautiful early Victorian barrel clasp — engraved with a feather motif and set with a band of turquoise — is complemented by a luxuriously long, richly hued gold chain of intricately looped textured links. The clasp is double-ended, opening from both sides (and fully detachable) — which is so very useful and convenient for wrapping around the neck or threading through pendant bails from either the right or the left, as we have found!
We love this chain worn with the clasp on display — wrapped twice or even three times. The gold and turquoise combination is striking. No other adornment is necessary, but add your favorite antique locket or pendant to create a high impact look.
This will be a chain you reach for again and again from the jewelry box. We find that the width of this chain is that perfect sweet spot for a myriad of pendants and lockets or layering.
Marked with partially rubbed markings (including what appears to be a partial “5”) on the end loops of the tongues of the clasp — likely a gold mark and a town or maker’s mark.
Pendants shown not included.
15k gold (or higher).
Dimensions and weight:
● 53 inches long
● 3.1 mm wide/deep (chain), 7.2 mm wide/deep (clasp)
● 26.6 grams
Period: Early Victorian (chain may be later than the clasp)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age commensurate wear may be present. We acquired this as an all-original chain, but upon the closest of inspections, conservatively, we believe the chain may be later than the clasp — it is in such excellent condition and shows less wear than the clasp. As a whole, the chain and clasp are harmonious and appear period correct.
