(SOLD) Antique Late Georgian Flat-Cut Garnet Floral Cluster Riviere with Removable Drop Pendant
This is a luminous flat-cut garnet floral cluster rivière, circa 1820. Each berry hued flowerhead (15 in total) is chased by a single oval garnet, graduating toward the integrated box clasp. Look closely and observe that each petal is ever so subtly angled toward the center for wonderful dimensionality and light reflection. Typical of the period, the gemstones are set closed-backed..
Perhaps the cherry on top to this rivière — the removable drop pendant comprised of a large cluster and three tear drop dangles. Wear this heirloom piece at least 3 ways: rivière with pendant (as shown), rivière without pendant, or pendant on a ribbon or gold chain for an entirely different look.
Unmarked.
14k to 15k gold, garnet.
Dimensions and weight:
38.7 cm (15 1/4 inches) long (rivière)
38 mm long (pendant)
15 mm wide (largest floral cluster); 11mm (smallest floral cluster)
22 mm wide (pendant)
3 mm deep
35.4 grams (total)
Period: Georgian
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Minute trace of soft solder applied in antiquity seen under magnification on the pendant cluster, not interfering with beauty of the piece. Natural antique patina.
