(SOLD) Antique Early 19th Century Rock Crystal and Gold Swivel Fob Pendant
Rare. Delightful.
From our own personal collection to yours — a treasured large rock crystal and multi-color gold double-sided swivel fob pendant, circa 1820-30. The luminous faceted and monogrammed seal is surmounted by a pair of whimsical caterpillars embellished with applied flowers and turquoise cabochons. We observe the skillful use of yellow, green, and rose gold.
We find this fob particularly meaningful and worthy of any collection of sentimental jewelry. Caterpillars are symbolic of transformation — a reminder that we are always changing, reaching for our greatest potential.
Wear this rare jewel on a period chain, long, or short or anything in between. We love it on a classic Georgian chain.
The seal swivels and stays in place. The fob pendant is suspended from a large split ring, which may be a later addition.
Marked “14” at the tip of the pendant; undeciphered marks on the split ring.
Chain shown not included.
14k gold, turquoise.
Dimensions and weight:
● 46.5 mm long (not including split ring); 60.5 mm long (including split ring)
● 42 mm wide
● 11 mm deep
● 19.9 grams (total)
Period: Georgian (Regency)
*Please note that all dimensions and weights are approximate. Age-commensurate wear may be present. Note: We believe the barrel bail may be lined under the gold in a base metal, for strength and durability.
*For deliveries outside of the continental U.S., please contact us for shipping information.
